The Boathouse Pulau Tioman Green Fins Certification

Pulau Tioman, Malaysia, September 2025 – Boathouse Dive Centre & Spa received Gold certification status from Green Fins. Aims to protect coral reefs through environmentally friendly guidelines promoting sustainable diving and snorkelling, Green Fin provides the only internationally recognised environmental standards for marine tourism and its robust assessment system measures compliance.

The Boathouse Dive Centre & Spa is the first dive operator in Tioman to receive Gold status during the first year of operations, setting a national benchmark for responsible diving practices. “We are extremely proud to achieve Green Fins Gold status,” said Jennifer Pippin, Dive Centre Operations Manager, “Our team is passionate about preserving the fragile marine ecosystems in Pulau Tioman; from coral restoration to beach clean-ups, and eliminate single-use plastics on our dive boats, every initiative reflects our dedication to protect the ocean while providing guests with unforgettable underwater experiences.”

The Boathouse Dive Centre carries PADI seal and work closely with PADI AWARE Foundation and Reef Check Malaysia. The team also actively supports the Cintai Tioman Campaign, reinforcing its commitment to marine conservation and heighten community awareness.  Some CSR highlights for The Boathouse Dive Centre in 2025 includes:

  • Nipah Beach Coral Restoration & Replanting:
Building on foundations established in 2024, the Dive Centre continued its coral fragment replanting program throughout 2025. Scientific monitoring shows a 700% increase in fish activity compared to pre-restoration levels, demonstrating measurable reef recovery and biodiversity enhancement.
  • Nipah & Coral Island Beach Clean-ups:
Regular clean-ups were conducted to remove marine debris from local beaches. These efforts help to reduce hazards to marine life while enhancing the experience for visitors.
  • No Single-Use Plastics Policy:
The Boathouse Dive Centre implement a “zero single-use plastics policy” in all dive operations, including boats, takeaway packaging, and guest and staff consumables.
  • Paperless Digital Operations:
All liability waivers, guest forms, and internal documentation are now fully digitalised, reducing paper consumption nearly to zero and supporting long-term sustainability goals.
  • Adopted Dive Site – Jahat Island:
The Boathouse Dive Centre has officially adopted Jahat Island as a permanent conservation site. In Sept 2025, the team has removed 225 kg of ghost nets and other hazardous debris and establish ongoing monitoring to prevent future entanglement of marine life.
